This 8 ½” x 6 ½” book uses a complex binding system that combines an accordion fold, piano hinge and stitched signatures (groups of pages). Each step has easy-to-follow instructions. The hinge has a reusable template, the accordion fold is pre-scored and the stitching uses a template and book cradle for exact pre-drilled stitch guides. You will learn basic book assembly (covering book boards and applying end papers). You will also be paper layering and collaging the cover. Fibers and trims will also decorate the cover. Bring your stamping suitcase including: large Tombow blue glue stick, stylus, needle tool or awl, bone folder and a paper trimmer.

Mixed media exploration, paper artistry and attention to embellishment detail will meld together to form a piece of frameable canvas art. A range of coloration and layering techniques will be demonstrated then used to fill each of the distressed grid boxes. Metals, acrylic buttons, florals, charms and fibers will also be altered and the design will be unified once a shaded base canvas is done. A final mounting on larger canvas will round out the project. Layering and embellishment materials will be provided but bring some of your own to add your unique touch. Bring your stamping suitcase including eraser, colorful magazine, disposable art brush for gluing, thin liner paintbrush for detail work, black StazOn pad, stamp cleaner, favorite small embellishments and stamps, bull dog clips, tiny alphabet stamps, 1 sheet 12 x 12 patterned paper, 1 sheet coordinating plain cardstock and black Sharpie for edging.

Charming tin tags with soldered raised edges are altered to create glass-like windows embedded with tiny gems, beads, watch findings and charms. Handmade paper backgrounds are inserted and tiny images or vintage page text is included to make these personalized pendants. They are finished with pin backs or jump rings to allow for easy hanging from chains and cord necklaces. Styles crafted can be funky, whimsical or vintage chic, as desired. Students will create a trio of these wonderful evocative pieces, complete with a velvet pouch to store your treasures. Apply layers of paint, paper and findings, then sand and tear it off to reveal the collage underneath. Play with the effects of whitewash with gesso and color wash with acrylics to create depth and texture within your collage work. You’ll also take a closer look at the work of Nick Bantock, Robert Rauschenburg and others for even more inspiration. All supplies are provided.

In this class you will start with an 8” x 10” or larger wood shaped house and build it up with paper ephemera, punched pieces, acrylic paints, ink, charcoal and dimensional ephemera. You will fall in love with this darling little house and want to make them to sell. You can create a whole neighborhood to hang in your home if you want. Imagine that…actually hanging art on the wall. How cool is that?
